Back to Nature
At Back to Nature, our mission is to nurture deeply connected, confident, and compassionate children through immersive experiences in nature, play, community, and cultural respect.
We believe children thrive when they develop a connection to the world around them. When they are free to explore, create, take healthy risks, and feel truly known. Through outdoor adventures, music, storytelling, hands-on skills, mindfulness, and meaningful relationships, we create an inspiring environment where children feel safe enough to be themselves, supported enough to grow, and empowered enough to discover their own strengths.
Rooted in respect for the natural world and the wisdom of those who lived closely with the land, we encourage curiosity, resilience, stewardship, and a strong sense of belonging. Our goal is to help children build not only practical skills and independence, but also a lifelong connection to nature, community, and themselves.
Programs
-
Our forest school is child-led, play-based, and held entirely outside.
Curriculum is emergent, following the interests of the children, and seasonal.
Specific skills shared include shelter building, knots, gardening, cooking, yoga, and music.
We also celebrate the unique cultures and traditions of the families in our community through songs, stories, games, crafts, and seasonal activities.
Occasionally we will have guests join our Forest School classes to share a variety of skills, knowledge, and cultural arts.
-
Whether you just love nature or are noticing signs of stress and burnout, we have programs for you too! Come out and enjoy a Forest School experience. Cook in our Mud Kitchen, sit and draw/journal in our beautiful space, or attend a seasonal workshop to create your own decorations or gifts.
-
Fairy and other themed camps, seasonal craft workshops, and activity specific day-classes will also be offered throughout the year.
*Occasionally we will have guests join our Forest School classes to share a variety of skills, knowledge, and cultural arts and those workshops will be available outside of our Forest School time if we have enough interest.
We are currently getting set up in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Our goal is to start classes this Summer.
